Frequently Asked Questions

Why is there added sugar in your bars?

Our bars are sweetened with organic raw honey. Although our honey is 100% natural & in it's whole food form, it needs to be listed as an “added sugar” according to the FDA as of 2021. You will never find refined sugar in our products.

Isn’t saturated fat bad for your health & heart?

No, but seed oils are! Decades ago, the sugar industry paid off scientists to blame fat, not sugar, for heart disease, which is subconsciously what led you to this concern. This shaped the way we as a country have been eating for the last 60 years, hence the dreadful American diet. Since then, we’ve smartened up. Most recent research has proven that saturated fat has no effect on the risk of heart disease. In fact, it strengthens our cell membranes, improves mitochondrial function, and aids in insulin sensitivity. Polyunsaturated fats however (seed oils), disrupt these bodily functions and wreak havoc on your metabolic health. You’ll never find those in our bars. Our source of fat comes from pasture raised, grass fed beef tallow.

Why whey protein? Isn’t dairy bad for you?

We all know the unfortunate truth about factory dairy farming, which is why we source our whey protein from New Zealand, a country with the highest regulations for raising cattle & humane farming. The cattle are pasture raised, 100% grass fed, and free from hormones, GMOs and antibiotics. At Prima, we believe in animal based, ancestral nutrition, which wouldn’t be complete without a bit of grass fed dairy. Whey protein is the most bioavailable and complete protein, containing all 9 essential amino acids, omega 3s & CLAs. It is easily absorbed & digested by most humans.

Are your bars sweet or savory?

Sweet! Although we personally love a good grass fed ribeye cooked in tallow, we don’t want our protein bars to taste like one, so no worries there. What makes our bars so special is that they offer the nutrition & protein content of animal based food, in the form of a convenient, on the go snack that tastes like a decadent dessert. Unlike most sweets, Prima Bars will leave you feeling satisfied & energized.

Why is PRIMA not certified organic or non GMO?

Have you ever asked your favorite vendor at your local farmers market why they aren’t certified? If you have, they probably told you that although they use organic & non GMO farming practices, getting certified is a b*tch. Same goes for us, but we promise, it’s important to us, and we’re working on it. For the time being we want you to know that we take pride in that every one of our ingredients is of the highest quality. The foods that make up our bar are organic, whole, 100% grass fed, pasture raised, and always free from hormones, antibiotics & GMO’s.

My bars were left out in the cold. What should I do?

Our bars are perfectly safe to eat cold, however, they firm up quite a bit. For the best experience and taste, we recommend waiting to eat until they settle back to room temp.

My bars were left out in the heat. What should I do?

Our bars are perfectly safe to eat warm & are naturally quite stable, however they might lose shape if left in the heat for too long. For the best experience and taste, we recommend waiting to eat until they settle back to room temp.

Are your bars gluten free?

Yes, all of our products are certified gluten free.

Are your bars pregnancy safe?

Yes, our products are safe for pregnant and nursing mothers. In fact we highly recommend them as daily protein needs rise when a woman becomes pregnant or is nursing. The nutrient dense protein + fat combo will satiate the extra hunger that comes with pregnancy & breastfeeding, as well as stabilize blood sugar for balanced healthy hormones. One of our founders was pregnant when Prima was born & made sure to make women’s hormone health a priority when choosing ingredients.

What is the shelf life?

Our bars are shelf stable up to 12 months.
